The peaceful and sunny 200 year-old stone cottage is south facing and perched on a hill directly above the River Lot with spectacular views of both the river and valley below. The property is secluded yet it is located within five minutes from the bustling and charming medieval village of Entraygues-sur-Truyere which features shopping, Farmer's Markets, bakeries, cafés and restaurants as well as a post office, bank, and pharmacy.
La Gourdinerie is a nature lover's paradise with four acres to explore including a lovely footpath leading to a natural spring on the property and farther to a tranquil meadow. Beautiful butterflies and colorful moths are often flitting around the property. This is a great bird watching site where songbirds, herons, kites and hawks can easily be watched. Binoculars are essential.
The private site is mountainous (not recommended for children under 8 years old) with a beautiful stone terrace and sweet gardens that include wild red poppies, lavender, irises, apple, chestnut and cherry trees, hibiscus, rosemary and thyme.
The house features original wood beam ceilings, oak floors, handmade terracotta tile floors and views of the river from all the rooms and offers the tranquil sound of the river year round. The well-appointed accommodations include a beautiful living and dining area with a log-burning stove in an inglenook fireplace as well as quality antiques and furnishings.
Located to the left of the main living space is the recently renovated old world style kitchen featuring solid oak cabinetry with porcelain knobs and beautiful Italian ceramic tile countertops. New appliances include stainless steel Bosch refrigerator/freezer, Rosiéres gas stove/oven and integrated dishwasher. Also included are a coffee maker, toaster and electric kettle. Above the kitchen is a double bedroom with French doors leading to a balcony with a bistro-style table and chairs to take in the views. A shower and W/C are located downstairs.
Located on the opposite side of the cottage, a wooden staircase leads to a charming level with a double bedroom, a single bedroom and full bath (shower and W/C). All bedrooms feature antique furniture, quality linens and down comforters.
Our stone terrace has two seating areas, one near a lovely decorative iron rail with breathtaking views and the other near the ancient bread oven. Both areas have views of the river and surrounding valley. The sunny terrace is perfect for a morning cup of coffee or dinner alfresco.
From the terrace, a tree-lined country lane leads you to the private and idyllic pool area about 100 yards away. The 24' out-of-ground oval pool is fed by our natural spring and is in a sunny location with a large wooden deck and chaise lounges. Next to the pool is a table setting for a, "pause gourmand," under the shade tree and with more stunning views of the river!
Towels, bed linens, firewood, BBQ , UK and French digital TV and a Sony CD player are all provided. Ample parking. Pets welcome.
