Sweet French Cottages

Cottage owners with their 1963 Deux Cheveaux

The cottage owners, Lance and Rain, known locally as simply “Les Americains”, relocated to Southwest France from California to enjoy the “Joie de Vivre” that France so amiably offers.

Both from Los Angeles, Lance was an Entrepreneur and his wife, Rain, was an interior designer and artist. Together they designed and renovated private homes, apartment buildings and retail properties for letting and resale.

Lance travelled the United States and had many successful businesses from luxury cars and tennis tournaments to the creation of restaurants, supper clubs and music venues. Among his jazz and blues clubs, Lance transformed The Mint, a 1930’s Speakeasy, into a well-established and popular Los Angeles music venue that still thrives today.

Rain decided to leave her stifling corporate career to pursue her penchant for art and design. She formed an interior design company and then began creating metal furniture, sculpture and mixed media works. Rain’s work was exhibited at galleries throughout the Los Angeles area, which was the stimulus for opening her own gallery.

Despite their achievements, they felt as if they still hadn’t found what they were looking for… just like the U2 lyrics. Tired of the city and inspired by trips to Northern California and Big Sur, Lance and Rain decided to move from the big city to a small town between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Somewhat to their surprise, they loved the rural community and quite easily traded their city life for their country life.

This change of lifestyle encouraged them to live their dream and relocate to rural France. Surrounded by medieval villages, rolling green hills, forests, vineyards and bountiful nature, they finally found what they were looking for. They live happily with their two cats, Cali and Bunny, and their dog, Lilly.

You are invited to visit this enchanting region of France and experience firsthand all that Sweet French Cottages has to offer.
